One Nation – One Spirit – One State

The Mountainous Republic of the Northern Caucasus stands as a luminous symbol of a region’s rebirth, prevailing against the hardships of occupation, genocide, and exile.

Though it stood solitary between the White and Red Russian armies and was ultimately dissolved in June 1921, the Republic remains a concrete embodiment of the Caucasian peoples’ resolve to forge a shared future rooted in common history and enduring values.

The Republic is the epic of a noble resistance, sustained by the political unity of Caucasian peoples who perceived their diverse ethnic origins, languages, and faiths not as divisions, but as a source of collective wealth.

The Republic of the Northern Caucasus represents the triumph of a collective will, established through congresses of high democratic representation despite the most adverse conditions.

It is the name of a sovereign state founded upon the fundamental right of self determination and formally recognized by the major powers of its era.

We commemorate with mercy and profound gratitude all the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and independence of the North Caucasus.

Uzuntarla Circassian Museum

One Culture – One Spirit – One Identity

After the occupation of Circassia by the colonialist Tsarist regime was completed with a great massacre on May 21, 1864, our surviving compatriots were torn from their paradise homeland and exiled to different geographies. Thus, the Circassian nation, forced to live dispersed across some fifty countries, managed to preserve its culture through great efforts.

May 9, 2026, is a historic day on which an important bridge has been built in the deep history of Circassian culture stretching from the past to the future. The Uzuntarla Circassian Museum, which makes an exceptional contribution to Turkey’s cultural richness, holds strategic importance in carrying national memory to the future. This official museum, built to international standards, is a cultural fortress that conveys Circassian nobility to the world in a universal language through the hundreds of years of cultural and artistic works it houses.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry and Municipal administrators who contributed to the establishment of the Museum, which undertakes a vital function in transferring the cultural richness carried from the Caucasus to Anatolia from generation to generation, as well as to the experts and volunteers who provided support.

The CNA, which carries out activities within the framework of international law and human rights norms to protect the rights and honor of the Circassian nation and to regain our respectable place among the nations of the world through our culture and identity, is ready to cooperate for the international promotion of the Uzuntarla Circassian Museum, which has taken on a pioneering role, and for it to be made the subject of academic studies.

Long live the Circassian Flag! Long live Circassia! Long live the Circassian Nation!!

The 12 stars on the Circassian Flag represent the regions of the tribes, the three arrows symbolize peaceful unity, the green background stands for Circassia’s paradise-like nature and the peaceful climate of Islam, and the golden color signifies the richness and freedom of the physical and human geography.

The Circassian Flag is a sacred symbol of the epic resistance shown by the Circassian people against the invasion attempts of colonial powers that began in the 16ᵗʰ century and intensified in the 19ᵗʰ century.

162 years have passed since Circassia, left utterly alone, was occupied by the colonial Tsarist regime, and our surviving compatriots were expelled from their heavenly homeland. Russia has still not even managed to apologize for the genocide, ethnic cleansing, and exiles inflicted upon the Circassian nation, which now lives scattered across fifty countries around the world!

In the Circassian nation’s struggle for cultural independence, the first alphabet published by Birsey Wumar in Tbilisi in 1853 represents one of the most critical milestones. Laid on the eve of the Great Exile under the harshest conditions of war, this foundation has bequeathed us the responsibility to preserve our language -not merely as a tool for communication, but as a language of civilization.

Today, the rich Cyrillic-based literary corpus flourishing in our homeland stands as a triumph of this historic endeavor. Our primary goal is to merge this heritage with the dynamism of the diaspora and transform into a society that reads, writes, and produces in its own tongue.

As the Circassian National Assembly (CNA), we salute every writer who takes up the pen on this path and every individual who keeps our language alive to carry it toward the future.

May March 14, Adyghe Language and Literature Day -celebrated since the year 2000- serve as an occasion for the cultural awakening of our people.
